Ian, yes I have always been envious of the "Utes" that they built in Australia and wondered why they took so long to get here. 57 for the Ford Ranchero and 59 for Chev's El Camino. Other than that we had to build our own and there were quite a few home built "Utes" around here in the sixties and seventies. Kind of butchered the old cars to make them into a handy farm pickup truck.
I learned to drive on this "real truck" many years ago.
