B.C., We have held a local annual plow day for the last 8-9 years. Have had several farmer hosts...all of them very good guys. We have 40-50 old tractors show up (tractors have to be 1959 or older so we can keep out big tractors and high speed plowing). We like our "old iron". Lots of spectators come to watch, local 4-H serves all the food and keeps their profit ($400-500 for them and they love it).
Rules: 1.No riders or passengers allowed; none. 2.No showing off or tail gating plow ahead of you.
We don't go near host farmer buildings, we locate thru a field driveway along a side road.
We charge tractor drivers $5.00 to pay for Porta Potties, announcement letters and some small traffic signs.
We have a video made by an excellent volunteer video man who edits the whole day film down to 30 minutes (now uses a drone, also).
I am the Coordinator (chief cook & bottle washer); I ask and get lots of help with registration, all vehicle traffic, and field prep work the day before. Local newspaper, chamber of commerce & radio stations love giving us free announcements of when/where we plow. We have become a "local tradition" and draw tractors from 30 miles in every direction. New last year was garden tractors plowing in their own area...one couple came from Michigan with their garden tractor for this!
I am very firm about our rules...VERY, and am old enough and ugly enough to enforce them. We have no problems with any ruffians showing up and doing stupid things with tractors. People like what we do and are glad to follow rules as long as they know what the rules are.
