On the other side of the coin, western Washington has the STP (Seattle to Portland) bicycle ride every year. 10,000 riders, riding from Seattle to Portland in one or 2 days. At about 6 Am on the second day, some riders noticed smoke coming from an old house in my neighborhood. While one called 911, several others went into the house and rescued an elderly house-bound woman. After aid car got there, they resumed their ride. I think they got some kind of award.
