We never used water to separate different grades of gas or diesel when pumping to a pipeline. We just followed one after the other and depending on the size of the pipeline and the products, the pipeline would just cut out a set number of barrels of the product to an "Interface tank" between shipments. The "Interface would later be sold to make new product from. The only time we would put water in a line would be to gas free it to do repairs. We did much larger shipments than you are describing (average 400,000 to 600,000 bbls.), so it may be different for smaller lines and shipments.
