Reason for negative first is that if your wrench is on the terminal and touches something metallic in the truck proper it won't arc weld. Once you get - off doesn't matter on + if you slip and make contact....as long as contact isn't to the - .....oops!
I am over 5 years on my 2011 Silverado and I was looking at it the other day, more to it than in the old days. Decided that I may drop 150 bucks on a replacement and if I have to do it tomorrow, that's less than 10 cents a day for a good reliable battery that has never failed me. I can live with that.
I bought my Branson 6530 new in Sept. 2007. Still using the same battery.....I think that's pushing 9 years.
I used to go through a 3 year battery right at 3 years. The longer timed batteries never made it to the end. Seems now-a-days, they are better built. Maybe the internal changes to make them sealed has contributed to that.
