I have always changed my own oil and greased as needed and all the routine maintenance that I feel comfortable doing.. In 1994 I bought a new Chevy 1500 Silverado that was loaded. I started working 7-12's 3 days later for 2 months. I have always changed a new vehicles oil real quick, 1000-1500 miles. Because of work schedule I went to a quick lube place one evening on the way home, 2 days later I had a short break at work and for some reason I had a strong feeling I needed to check my oil, it was 1.5 quarts low. In 2001 my wife bought a new Ford F150 Crew Cab, came with free oil changes for LIFE, they also performed a long list of checks, with documentation, one being air filter. When truck got about 40K miles on it my told me her gas mileage had dropped way off. I went out and started poking around, opened up air filter housing and the air filter was extremely clogged. Looked in glove box and pulled out all the sheets of paper from oil changes, air filter box was checked off as "GOOD" on every single one. That's all the reasons I need to keep doing all that I can at home!
