I have found that the problem with planting ryegrass this early is that it comes up in a week or so and maybe gets a couple inches high and then the weather turns off real dry and hot in September and it kills. I am in north east Louisiana which probably has yearly average temperatures very similar your area but maybe more average rain fall, right now is a perfect chance to lime and apply P&K so that the nutrients are incorporated before planting.
