Do all you guys think that the $75.00 per hour labor rate at the auto repair shop goes straight to the tech? I owned my own business for $25 years, usually with four employees. Any hourly rate that is charged has to cover way more than what goes to the worker. Workers that want to make the higher rate work first at entry level, then if they prove their worth, the business owner is tickled pink to have a good worker and pays them more. Some times during a downturn or slow time the owner has to reduce his overhead. He can't reduce his employees' pay, and knows that it would be bad for his future to lay certain employees off, so he will probably take a cut in his own pay. Workers who want to make the big bucks start their own businesses.
