But the Constitution, Bill of Rights and other law assign authority over interstate commerce to the Federal Gov't So they have a set of rules that apply nationwide, just as you said there should be. It's up to your state to handle intrastate CMV law. When it gets to interstate, then it's just like you wanted- a uniform set of rules and regs for CMVs. Of course your state could do like mine did, stupidly IMO, and adopt the FMCSR, the Federal DOT laws, en mass. Then the local laws are the same as Federal. But that brings it's own set of problems.
