it was an interesting sale. George really seems to like exceptional restorations and large operator platforms he can ride on due to his health. The mogul, although a fine machine, did not really seam to fit where he wanted the collection to go. A big part of the prices is the limited number of major collectors competing on a tractor. Jim Erdle, a major collector who sold his collection few years ago in a truly massive and epic sale, reentered the hobby by buying three tractors for major money and drove prices on a couple of others, but they were smaller tractors, he did not go after the bigger ones. The other major buyers whonhave driven prices mostly have similar large tractors in their collections as what was on the sale, hence part of the reason for the "soft" prices on them.
A lot of us were glad about who got the Boring and it returning to the rockford area, so that was a pleasant surprise. After the Gray, the quality dropped off hard on some of the early tractors, some of the prices reflected this.
