My opinion is the 99-2007 GM 2500 had the 4L80E 4 speed tranny in them that is nearly indestructible. (The 1500's have the 4 speed 4L60E in them that is a weakling and prone to failure and I am not knoking the 1500's as I own a 2003 1500).
Also, the 1500 transfer case is the one that rubs the hole in the case from chain rub, not the 2500 transfer case.
6.0 is likely the closest thing there is to a bullet proof motor on a high mileage gasser from any manufacturer. If I had to best on any older truck with high miles it would be the 2500 with a 6.0. Lots of self employed low budget contractors run em cause they can buy em cheap with high miles yet they still reliable for their livelihood. Will never be a fuel miser but will handle anything you put behind it within its capabilities as long as you let the motor rev.
