There is another way to plumb things. If you have another hole somewhere in the head or you can drill and tap a hole in the thermostat housing or near it. Now for the bulb. There is a neat little fitting I think is called a gland packing. Let me describe it. You have a screw in sleave. Looks like a thread adapter. This is just big enough to let the bulb through. Then there is a tight rubber washer and then a little metal disk with a slot in it for the tube from the bulb. Last is another screw in nut with another slot to let the tube through. I have used these on a lot of equipment for temp sensors on big dish machines. Hope this helped.
