I don't know what shop rates/service call rates are like around your area but around here an agricultural service call is $70 base charge (Canadian funds) + travel time @ $95/hour . The clock starts running when the mechanic leaves the dealership and stops when he gets back.
The construction/industrial dealers charge a much higher rate. Usually $150 to start and I have heard as high as $175 per hour for travel time and labour.
I'm not trying to run you down or anything but dealership's are there to not only cover their costs but make some money as well. They wouldn't be in business long if they did everything at cost or less than cost. When dealing with a dealership always ask lots of questions, can't assume anything. Unfortunately you don't have much recourse as it was all likely laid out in the fine print of the deal. Take it as a lesson learned and maybe next time spend a little more up front to get a better quality item/better dealership support. I've learned this lesson myself the hard way too.
