6011 if you have an old Lincoln AC welder or similar. Easy puddle, good striking, and plenty strong.
7018 if you have a DCEP welder. 7018 as mentioned is one of the only rods qualified for use on nuclear media pipes and structural elements. It flows a bit slower, and stays wet slightly longer. If you buy 7018 rod, make sure it was in a sealed container, and might be a good idea to put it in the oven for a few hours before you start to purge any moisture. 7018 can't be left outside at all, or it won't flux clear the weld field. Keep it dry, set up your fixture, then start welding right away.
As for amperage, it's a feel thing. You'll start around 90(depending on AC or DC), and see what that does for you. Go up or down as needed for penetration without blowing holes.
