The West Virginia was a well loved ship. Not that most sailors don't love their home but she was special to her crew. As you may know, most of the crews of the sunken ships at PH were dispersed to the 4 winds to man other ships that were coming online. But the WeeVee was different than most in that her crew tried all kinds of tricks to get back on her after she was rebuilt. Lots of cross decking amd letters written to Congressmen and Senators asking them to pill strings, etc. She even had several stow aways when she left port. Guys would risk getting busted in rank to get back aboard.
