I'm aware that companies can set the on duty variables with electronic logs. That is why an independant wouldn't have to worry about such restrictive settings and issues. I supose it is possible to set the log to de-tune a truck but there are no companies doing that now that I'm aware of, that would be very dangerous and costly for the company since there are just too many times where you are forced to over run your logs. What would happen if you spent several hours stuck on the road because of a closed road and then had trouble getting off the road because of a de-tuned truck? They put in the "safe haven" rule just for this situation. You are expected to have logbook violations because of this. I have a couple a month on average. If you get inspected and have no violations you will get a real close look. As long as your not violating to get more miles you will not get cited for it either.
As far as walmart goes, I deliver to all the dc's east of the rockies on a regular basis, sometimes several times a week, so I am well aware of their policies regarding parking. No walmart dc will kick you off the property during a break, 30 min. or 10 hours.
