This incident wouldn't have made even local news had the perps not been stupid enough to film their crime and post the video online. And along the spectrum of things loosely called "hate crimes", it barely registers.
Compare this incident, for example, with the Rosewood Massacre, where at least six people lost their lives for having the wrong skin color. Or if that 1923 event is ancient history to you, consider the case of James Byrd, who in 1998 was chained to the back of a pickup truck and dragged to death by three fun-loving good ole boys. Again, because of the color of his skin.
