Chain saws are not much of a choice for eastern red cedar, our main pest. Lots of low branches. And if you've got a thousand trees chain saws can be tiring. The tree saw cuts them well and is a good choice with the right size tractor. They also will push surface rock out of the way without damage to the saw so the cut can be 1" or so above ground. They do not cut smaller trees well, under two inches the saw tends to hang up on the tree and bend it over instead of cutting. Dozers tear up the our native grass too much and a hydraulic tree shear is slower.
