I don't know why the mower company didn't put a support bearing near the gear box. I was getting some serious vibration on my mower. I thought it was because of missing lades, which will also will cause a vibration. I found out the universal joint near the gear box was going bad. With the belts pulling on the pulley it was causing the U joint to take more strain than it could.I installed a support bearing and so far it is working ok. I have seen some mowers with a sleeve, instead of a U joint,but every thing needs to be perfectly level. Even then with the flexing of the frame it would still put strain on the gear box bearing.
