MY comments: The dirty mess you may have a guy who is good at what he does but might take forever and a lot of hounding to get it done. Item specific: some shops only want to do race engines so taking a 2 cylinder part to them can be fruitless. Same for a VW specialized place. Machine shops are on the decline so some times you only got one choice now a days. The best de fence is you studying up on stuff and asking questions. Seen similar where they ground/lapped the valves and that was that, no guides, no new springs etc. Good luck.
