: I would like a little insight as long as we are talking about Ford tractors. : I know little about tractors, however, I have asked probably a dozen Farmers about 8n's and 2n's. to see if they are good tractors. Almost without exception, I get reactions of laughter. I have been given the iMpression that most professional farmers feel that these tractors were a joke even in there time. I am told that they did not have live pto and needed to be overhauled almost yearly when seriously worked. : I am also told that they were way to light to do any serious field work. Am I asking the wrong people or are these tractors popular for some reasons that have not been brought to my attention? I believe, If you read the history and the associated literature, that Henry Ford wanted to design an affordable utility tractor which would cover the needs of a small farm. Up to that point in time, it was the most technologically advanced tractor ever produced and the Ford/Ferguson 3pt hitch is used on every single farm tractor in the world today - millions. Of course they didn't have live hydraulics, it DIDN'T EXIST yet. Ford was what the Ford was - An affordable first generation technology that changed the world. Therefore, it cannot be ignored or dismissed within it's relevant historical context. As the statistics show, they were the most popular farm tractors in history. People and competitors will always knock the leader, even for things that Ford didn't claim or try to be (a crop tractor). Case in point: Do any of you folks like Microsoft? I don't, but I'm not willing to trade windows 95 for OS2. Never was.
