If you have a lot of thunderstorms and unplug often, you might want to consider a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). When you need to unplug quickly, unplug the UPS and not the PC. The PC will continue shutting down on battery power.
Another thing is, if you unplug the power but still have any other cables to your computer, then your PC is still vulnerable to surges.
