The description you give implys that the shifter will not move the gears into mesh. If you had the top off, and freed up the rails and actually hav them moving, the gears must be stuck to the main shaft. (assumes you got the shifter forks on correctly.) If you want to make sure it is worth fixing, I suggest you take the lid off again and photo the internals with a good closeup. then try moving the gears on their shafts. If stuck, look for rust and stiff glue like residue on the shaft. The lower (countershaft gears are fixed in place and only the top shaft gears move. Jim
