We had a similar experience in June of 2011. To big box elders were uprooted, and landed on a big burr oak back of the house. The oak was severely damaged, and had to come down too. We lost all our west side shade in one night!
We were within inches of having a tree trunk in our sons bedroom, and the same with the sun room.
While the mess looks bad, please count your blessings. Everyone is OK. Insurance will cover the cars, etc.
I was sad... that oak had at least 162 rings. It had been there since our homesite was first settled. But we planted a couple nice maples, and transplanted some burr oaks from elsewhere on the farm. The grandkids (hopefully someday) will have nice shade.
