Use care with the staring engine. They like their fuel and spark. Check the oil for level and condition, some of these can get gas contamination and thin the oil. I believe that's the same 6 cylinder motor as the one used after the 3 cylinder motor in the earlier D6's with the horizontally opposed pistons. The other thing is some of these you must spin the diesel to get coolant circulating through the starting engine, run it too long without the main engine engaged, it can overheat.
Only reason I mention it is if you are new to these or not familiar, many of the old timers who could share the finer points of running them are not around. Hopefully your friend shared whats important with you.
The starting engines are nice for cold weather starts as you can just spin that diesel until it's ready to fire, warming the coolant, circulating the oil and once you turn on compression the cylinders are warm enough to start firing.
