Was there something to it before the eventual acquisition by Tenneco? Every now and then you hear somebody talk that they "knew something" in regards to the fate of IH. Back in the day I don't think that I heard anything other than outright speculation in regards to Ford.
Pros : Would have upgraded Ford in high HP tractors especially with Magnum transmission in development. Would have gotten Ford to closer to being a full line supplier. Would have broadened truck line for Ford and sewed up 6.9/7.3 engines.
Cons : Ford was in financial difficulty during the early 1980's but did eventually buy New Holland. Weeding out dealers. Merge engine technologies or just utilize one line?
