If your jumping to the starter NO spark at the plugs since it takes battery power to make spark at the spark plugs and on a 9N the start circuit is sepport from the ignition system. On the N series fords you can spin the engine over with the starter with the ignition system turned off but you will not have spark to the plug because the ignition is not turned on and if the battery is dead you have no power for the spark
