I think that most of these folks are counting on living the dream. Summer at home for us northerners and down south for the winter. Travel and cruise ships. All the stuff people are told they are supposed to do in retirement.
Well we don't travel much. Mostly to see grandkids. Don't have an expensive life style either. We eat out maybe 2-3 times a month. Our farm payments are 450 a month and we have 2 1/2 years to go on that. She's still working until next Feb. She sews, mostly doll cloths for the granddaughters and I play with tractors and model trains. I'm making today about what I was making before I retired so I would guess that counting for inflation we are about 80%. I retired in 02 at 48.
Now IMO if you are counting on SS and a 401K you maybe better stay where you are. Know too many people who have burned through that 401K because of medical issues and now only have SS. You could always be a Wal Mart greater.
