Its a 52. Very similar to the 53 models but the 52 is more rare since there were not as many made due to the Korean war. That also explains the poor quality chrome plating on 52 model cars.
Yes, lots of Mercury trucks around here when I was a kid. I think my uncle had at least one in his custom trucking years. Likely a 600 series. I've got that 49 M68 truck still sitting in my yard soaking the cylinders in hopes of un-seizing it.
