All my life I've usually been on the giving end of acts of kindness - just like my Dad was.
On the receiving end, a guy in NJ sent me a box of onions and other assorted veggies. That was nice, since water is too expensive to grow a home garden here.
One morning we were checking out at Wal-Mart and my wife was fishing in her purse for the exact change. (She had the exact amount of change, but it was all loose in the bottom of her purse so it was taking her awhile to find it.) The young fellow behind us stepped up with a hand full of change and laid out the exact amount of change needed; wife had already laid out the bills. We thanked him and told him it wasn't necessary and he said: No problem, I do this all the time. Guess he decided it was just so something that he wanted to do.
Felt kind of odd to be on the receiving end rather than the giving end. We discussed it later and decided that it was okay, just different than we were used to. I've done the same thing a few times. Used to do it for little kids that were just a bit short of change.
