In great shape pressure is probably less than 2 psi.
I am thinking that if it can make the fuel dribble out the hose at the carburetor, it is probably adequate. When in doubt about the pump, gravity feed the carburetor from a test tank and run the output from the pump into a can or bottle and see if the pump keeps up and the amount deilvered doesn't drop back.
I have seen a couple of kohler mechanical pumps in recent years that would pump a while and then take a break. That makes the mechanic pull his hair out though.
Also, How far is the engine and carburetor above the tank? I think I heard they have problems lifting fuel much over about 4 feet. Some guy was saving money by trying to make the engine on his air compressor or welder siphon fuel from the tank in the truck it was mounted on.
