I went to a Red Wing outlet store here in its home state of Minnesota, and they said they didn't have anything to try on but narrow. It was SO narrow that I doubt my wife could have worn her size in the men's shoe. I've heard lots of good about Danner boots, but they're expensive.
One thing you might look into is, there are LOTS of military-type boots for sale out there. I got a pair made by Bates, but my continuing ankle problem prevents me from wearing them anymore. However, I didn't pay for the waterproof model.
Wow! Just looked back and they're now TWICE what I paid two years ago!! Great boots though! I've got a neighbor that's a Dep. Sheriff who also went over there to train others. He had a pair of the Danner boots. Don't know if his were waterproof, but he said they're awesome! He actually has two pair - one natural and one black.
