On-Off cycles are hard on florescent lights including CFLs. Many are good for around 3,000 On-Off cycles. They also require some ventilation to avoid overheating. I would install another CFL bulb. If that one also gets too hot, I would switch to an LED bulb, probably change all the bulbs in the fixture at that time to keep the light color all the same.
