That does sound high, I've never seen one reach those kind of numbers. What is more important is the compression be equal between the cylinders.
Typical evidence of worn rings loosing compression is bad idle, hard starting, and excess blow-by out the crankcase vent.
It can have bad oil rings and still have decent compression. Bad oil rings show up as blue smoke under load or as the engine is coming up to speed, excess oil consumption, and oil fouled plugs.
Worn valve guides can cause oil consumption, usually seen as blue smoke on start up.
The clicking you hear is a sign the valve lash needs to be adjusted. The loose ones are making the noise, but there could be some tight ones. The tight ones cause compression loss and will eventually damage the valves. It is a simple procedure to set the lash and needs to be done before running a compression test. They set at .015 hot.
