I do not completely agree with this either. I had a choice 14 years ago when we bought this place and needed to buy a tractor for mowing, driveway maintenance and general dirt work. I could spend $4,000.00 cash for an older AG tractor or go into debt for something newer.
Ended up paying cash for a 71 Ford 3000 with loader and box blade. Have absolutely no regrets at all, other than normal maintenance and a rear tire (my fault) that Ford hasn't cost me a dime. I have used and abused it for almost 15 years and it has always been ready when I needed it.
Less the tire I have spent maybe $100.00 a year for oil, filters etc. That works out including the original cost to about $400.00 bucks a year. The really good part is I could sell that old Ford today for what I paid for it 14 years ago. Today, 46 years after that tractor came off the line there is nothing that could break that can't be fixed for 1 to 2 grand at the worst.
Will a 2017 tractor still be fixable 47 years from now and what is the cost per year for the first 20. Bet it will be allot higher than my old Ford.
