George, I'm a VERY sympathetic person. Absolutely HATE to hear about all the "bad" things out there, like people being hurt or killed. On the other hand, you have to realize that many people these days are inherently careless, and driving 70+MPH down an interstate while texting on the phone, putting on makeup, eating, and who knows what......bad things are gonna happen!
We're not being callous here, but life is often a cruel and dangerous place. The difference between the danger now and long ago is, long ago life was dangerous because of what was required to "remain" alive! Nowdays, it's dangerous from all the people too absorbed in their lives to have to try and keep it protected.
And just like when Larry and Loren referenced about you having a wife, they feel really bad about their slip, as you are their friend and they know you. Other folks here on YT....I for one don't know everyone yet, but still, I feel like part of the family here now. So there is that small sort of connection. Please don't think we simply do not care whether nameless, faceless people die or get injured. Problem is, there,s a whole world full of death out there. ...It's a part of life. Anyone trying to follow all of it will simply drive themselves insane over time.
