Because you can't turn. On diff lock, owner's manuals tell you to disengage before turning.
Remember the "3 wheeler"? It had a solid rear axle and you had to tilt it up on one rear when you wanted to turn on a hard surface. Go cart...same. That's the purpose of the differential. If both tires have equal traction it will split the load. Just favors the easy side when it can decide on it's own and that's why tractors have diff lock. How many of us would have been stuck how many times had it not been for DL.
