If you plan on driving at some of the higher elevations you can encounter snow at that time of the year. A few years ago we had to turn around as I70 was closed for the day beginning of October. A couple CO ski areas try to open the first or second week of October. If you are a steam fan there are a couple narrow gauge railroads in CO. Mesa Verde?
