Now that you mention the oxygen concentrator, I think there was a "method to her madness"- She wanted you to have clean air and not a bunch of dirt screwing it (and you) up.
When I worked for Production Credit Assn. in the '70's, a dairy farm customer wanted to finance a new tractor. He was agonizing over whether to spend the extra for a cab. He was inclined not to. Suddenly, his wife spoke up- she said you know I don't interfere much with the way you run the farm, but we need to get that cab. You have colds, flu or worse every winter, spreading manure in the rain and wind. She turned to me and said "Put in the money for the cab". He just kind of smiled weakly and shrugged, but you could tell he was happy that she had put her foot down.
