That's not a cover, that is the bottom of the hyd pump.
You're pretty much committed to taking it out now that the seal is broken. The control linkage needs to come loose first, access that through the round covers on the sides. Then the PTO shaft comes out, 4 bolts on the back. Might want to start a couple bolts back in it so the weight isn't on the shaft and it doesn't fall when the shaft comes out.
What do the metal pieces look like? Chipped gears? Bearing cages?
If you're going into this, a shop manual will be a very useful investment!
