I willingly pay for the security programs. Yes Window defender and others are free BUT you have to make sure they are kept updated. They do not totally do it automatically. I am not a computer geek so I worried about keeping thinks updated with those. So I have been using Norton for close 15 years now. I have had zero issues with some one getting in my computer. I have had some performance issues with Norton running too much in the back ground. I found it usually was simple setting to change to make it work well enough for me.
