Neighbor growing up had a son my age and one four or five years older. They had nearly all new Craftsman tools. Every Spring the older boy was tasked with root-tilling the garden, he wanted to sit around smoking some ditch weed, so he'd turn all the screws around on the carb so the engine would not run. His Dad couldn't fix a burned out light bulb, so off it went to the repair shop, for a week or two.
One year, my Dad asked to borrow the tiller, as it was less trouble than bringing a tractor home from the farm. The neighbor explained it did not run, but he had not taken it in, yet. Dad asked if he could look it over, and of course, fixed it in short order. From then on, the neighbor would call Dad to offer to loan him the tiller, knowing it would be tuned up sharp, washed and full of fuel, ready for the kid to spend the day with!!
