Fractions and decimals have nothing to do with the metric system of measurement really, they are just two different mathematical systems that deal with portions (ie part of a whole). So 1/2 of a pail or 0.5 of a pail or 50% of a pail mean essentially the same thing, but none of them has anything to do with metric measurement. I'm surprised that some Canadians seem oblivious to this fact.
