That is cheap if it is in good working order. They are guys looking for them. Many thing they are the toughest mower JD ever built. I disagree but that is another post. I sold one last year for $3250 that was in prefect shape. it only had 450 hours. There is an hour meter. You have to raise the hood to see it. Also the 50 inch deck is worth more and was the most common on them. If the deck is about 5-6 inches thick it is a 50 inch not a 48.
Make sure the motor is in good running order. They are usually bullet proof but if you do need to work on them it gets spendy fast. Check the hydro out as they can get loose and then cost a good penny to fix. The good thing is the hydro out of the later 316 and 318s is the same unit. So you usually can find good used ones.
