No, that's straight blacksmithing, forging work. The hammer operator operator was behind the camera. Early on in the video you can see one guy signal to him. He'll be operating a winch to lift and release the hammer. Pretty nice setup.
You know how much metal to start with based on the weight of what you want to finish with, plus the punch plug removed. Then when you get it forged to the proper dimensions you have the right diameter.
