Last winter I installed new points, condenser, rotor and distributor cap. This spring I ran the battery down and forgot to push the switch in when I put the charger on for a couple days. I fussed filing the points to get it started after I had caused them to burn a bump on them. A few weeks ago I replaced the points and condenser and the old girl started like it should. A few weeks back we got a high wind driving rain and it would not start. With a few days of warm sun it dried out and would start but took a lot of grinding and a back fire or two and run. I couldn't find a crack or carbon line in the cap. I ordered new wires as the old wires were dried out from years of being out in the weather as well as a new cap and rotor. the wires cam first and I put them on last week and it started some better but not a lot. I put the new cap on this morning that came Friday. The old girl starts on the first pop now and every time. The driving rain must have done in the cap. the old rotor was the first I have seen rusted on the rotating tab though. I sanded it earlier on the end and it didn't help. I have had caps that looked real bad and run. This one didn't look all that bad. Thought about putting the cap back on to see if it was the rotor. Just a thought though. To lazy anymore to mess with it. Old age I guess.
