I bought a 2000 Chevy 4x4 1/2 ton that had been hit in the rear, not quite as bad as yours as the bed wasn't hurt. Bumper folded under and bent the frame just ahead of where the springs mount at the rear. I pulled the bed off, cut the frame where it was bent jacked it straight and welded gussets in to beef up where I cut. Been driving it for 8 years.
If you do buy it back, try to find a bed ~$1000.00 at the most. My bed has cancer and once in a while I check CL just to see if by chance I might find one in better shape than mine. Ford beds seem to be pretty common on the local Craigslist, for some reason much more so than Chevy. The rest you can fix yourself if you have any kind of shop at all.
