Re: My Health Care Rant (...but in a different direction)

Once again, I keep reading and seeing all these YT members (supposed friends, right? ) who are once again nearly at each others' throats, this time over healthcare....as talk of politics isn't allowed. Well, the same EXACT results come from this topic as well. Why is this allowed? Because we ALL get older, and we ALL need healthcare services at some point in time.

I lived in Finland some 25 years ago and, while there, experienced my first-ever hemorrhoid. Went in and saw a doctor right away (...wouldn't you know, a young lady doc! ) and the best and ONLY thing the entire nation of Finland could offer at that time was Preparation H suppositories. Guy I was working with had a toothache, and I happened to have some Tylenol extended release. Not extra strength, but extended release! He said they couldn't even get anything like that with a prescription there! Now, I have serious doubts about his statement, as he only had a headache, and not even an immobilizing one at that. I'm fairly certain they had stronger things meant for greater pain. However, they were also big there on allowing the body to heal itself....over the normal required healing time. Take a look at a common US advertising and how they often state (or did in the past, as with Neosporin) how much quicker someone heals over not using their product and healing naturally. Yes, I agree, it is better to keep unnecessary germs out of cuts and scrapes, and therefore Neosporin and other such products work amazingly well. However, when you go to the doctor's office and they use a single-use application of a Neosporin-type product on you, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST??? How much for ONE pair of surgical gloves, much less 3 dozen?? How much for gowns that can be laundered and sterilized? For the prices they charge, they could go out and buy enough scrubs for a month from just one surgery!! IT'S INSANE! (added later: On this same note, look at many so-called cold & flu remedies and how they say it takes X-number of days or weeks to work. Wait, isn't that how long it would take normally without any meds?? In other words, just how much "healthcare" are we being fed that we don't even need??)

Folks, it doesn't matter what side of the fence you stand on. I happen to be conservative. However, BOTH SIDES ARE SICK, AND SO ARE OUR HEALTHCARE AND INSURANCE SYSTEMS!!! Too many lawsuits. Too many hands in the pockets. Too much jockeying around highest prices for maximum return. HEALTHCARE IS A BUSINESS, AND ONE THAT MAKES DARN GOOD MONEY!! But things are to where..........remember some years back the gov't was paying several hundred for a hammer? What was that about a toilet seat?? Gee, look at what NASA is doing now and how much lower in cost with better ideas and higher expected reliability and accuracy.

As for when we hurt, we want it to stop. NOW!! So, the pharmaceuticals have made big business on trying to make that happen with drugs. And, many doctors get paybacks for prescribing certain drugs over others. Now, insurance companies are doing the same thing! ...Remember the first-ever hemorrhoid I had? Told Mom about it over the phone and she went to her doctor, who wrote out a prescription for a medication. She sent it to me. Worked almost instantly!! Was called Proctofoam HC. Can't get it anymore. Why? Because the Save-The-Earth idjits fought so hard against the ozone sumpin-or-udder stuff it had in it. ....Think about it for a minute -- think about how TINY these little things were and how long they lasted and how little ozone-depleting stuff was in them. And just overnight, lawsuits against the manufacturer forced them to stop making a truly miraculous product. Now people can't heal instantly from hemorrhoids, so now they gripe and complain and sue. IT'S A NEVER-ENDING CYCLE!! My God, people, use your heads! Take a deep breath, come back from the edge of insanity for a moment and REALLY take a look around! Our healthcare system is sick in SO MANY WAYS that it's going to require NOT ONE, but SEVERAL major overhauls to get it fixed! Why several? Because we don't learn very fast -- it's gonna take several tries before enough people learn to keep the idjits out of the process!! Who are the idjits? Simple -- the ones that want to build a fortune from the process, or secure their own future (a bit better than average  ), or people that just don't like other people, or don't like Americans, or don't like the current administration (like THAT should have anything to do with my hemorrhoids!!), or......well, too dang many to list!

Tell me (please!), how long will it take before the people in this country stop fighting each other and start trying to work together? Nothing....and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING can happen until the fighting stops! Nothing can happen while we continue to close our eyes to the problems at hand. Nothing will happen so long as we continue to allow folks to over-complicate things; oh, we're running out of Social Security benefits; oh, we can't get care from the VA; oh, what about all the welfare folks? I admit, those are valid things, but first things first. And first thing we need to do is get off the throats of those around us and start thinking and working together. Communication is the key! Without it, we will most certainly end up like all past "great civilizations"....you know, the ones we read about in history books. No, wait...people don't read anymore; they watch videos and watch TV; see what Hollywood is doing now.

Yep, it's more than just our healthcare system that is sick.

Today's Featured Article - A Brief History of Tractors in Australia - by Bob Kavanagh. After Captain Cook's exploration of the east coast in 1770 the British Government decided to establish a penal colony in Australia. The first fleet arrived in 1788 and consisted mainly of convicts who were poorly equipped and new little of farming techniques. The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve. Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T ... [Read Article]
