First of all there were actually two different 4000s built in 1965. The last of the old 4 cylinder 4000s and then in April of 65 the new 3 cylinder 4000s were introduced and that series was produced untill the end of 1975. They are Very different tractors. So generally we suggest you tell us if you have the 4 or 3 cyl model. That said, the temp sender on the 3 cyl Fords is electric. It is located in the very front (Front - not top or side) of the head behind the fan.. There is a small brass plug there that should have a male spade clip for a wire to hook to. Frequently, that spade clip is broken off so you will likely need to buy a new one. Welcome to Yesterdays Tractors by the way. There is a very good Ford Forum here on this site.
