My daughter went to work for a credit union several years ago. So I bought four $5,000 CD's over a period of several weeks. 6 month CD's because this was money I might need. I needed some so I wanted to cash one of them in. The expiration date was on a Sunday, and Monday was a holiday so I went in on Tuesday. They informed me that you had to tell them three days before the expiration if you did not want to keep the CD invested. They charged me enough in fees that I made nothing on the six month's interest. So I cashed the other three on the spot and took a several hundred dollar hit but I have never darkened their door again. It's a business and they could have shown some flexibility but I was dealing with the Credit Union manager, a rather rigid lady. She probably needed something else. They have since closed. You rarely see credit unions close.
